If you rig your zander or pike shads with a stinger treble, this swivel chain solves two problems at once: the treble follows the fish that strikes short, and the line stops twisting. We find it more reliable than a plain piece of fluoro between the lure and the hook, especially when bites are soft.
On big soft lures and chatterbaits, zander and pike often strike from behind, short of the lure. With a fixed treble, these soft bites end in drop-offs. Linked between the back of your lure and the treble, this chain lets the hook pivot in every direction: it follows the fish’s head shakes instead of acting as a lever, which turns many misses into hooked fish. Its four rolling joints also absorb the lure’s rotation and limit line twist on long retrieves. It is a piece made for anglers who work their big soft lures for zander and pike.
The stinger rig is quick: add a split ring at each end of the chain, attach one end to the back of the lure and a treble hook to the other. As for size, the number works against intuition: the smaller it is, the bigger and stronger the swivel. The #3 is therefore the toughest, for big volumes and pike, while the #8 stays discreet on finer rigs. For most zander and perch situations, sizes #5 and #6 do the job, and the matte black finish avoids glare on pressured waters.
