KISTLER Bakk Series Fly Rod

The KISTLER Bakk Series Fly Rod is a hand-crafted collaboration between fly fishing guide Jeremiah Bakk, who brings 25+ years of fly fishing experience, and Trey Kistler. It’s built as a do-it-all fly rod, capable of presenting small dry flies on alpine creeks as well as fishing heavier indicator rigs for large lake-run trout.

The blank is KISTLER’s Carbon KC9 Extreme high modulus, built in a 9’0″ length across all three weight classes, broken into 4 equal-length sections. The handle is Portuguese custom shaped, super grade cork, and the reel seat is aluminum with double locking nuts and O-rings, with the 5wt and 6wt models adding treated burl wood. The rod is built by hand in Texas.

The Bakk Series comes in 5wt (Medium-Fast action, 3 oz), 6wt (Fast action, 3.2 oz), and 8wt (Fast action, 4.3 oz), with guide sets that scale up by weight class (see the specs below). A rod sock is included with purchase; a hard fly rod case is not included.

Bakk Series Fly Rod FAQs

What is the KISTLER Bakk Series Fly Rod built for?

The Bakk Series Fly Rod is a collaboration between fly fishing guide Jeremiah Bakk and Trey Kistler, built as a do-it-all trout rod capable of presenting small dry flies on alpine creeks as well as fishing heavier indicator rigs for large lake-run trout.

The blank is KISTLER’s Carbon KC9 Extreme high modulus, built by hand in Texas.

How do I choose the right weight class on the KISTLER Bakk Series?

The 5wt (Medium-Fast action, 3 oz) is recommended for 135-155 grain fly line in the first 30 feet, and the 6wt (Fast action, 3.2 oz) is recommended for 155-180 grain. The 8wt (Fast action, 4.3 oz) steps up to a heavier titanium frame guide set built for bigger water and larger flies.

All three weights share the same 9’0″ length in 4 equal-length sections.

What’s the guide and reel seat construction on the KISTLER Bakk Series?

The 5wt and 6wt use a Cerecoil zirconia ringed stripper guide plus 9 single-foot Recoil pearl nickel titanium guides, paired with an aluminum and treated burl wood reel seat. The 8wt uses a 3x titanium frame with a Nanolite ringed stripper guide plus 6 double-foot Recoil pearl nickel titanium guides, paired with an aluminum reel seat without the burl wood accent.

The handle across all three weights is Portuguese custom shaped, super grade cork.

What’s included with the KISTLER Bakk Series Fly Rod?

A rod sock is included with purchase. A hard fly rod case is not included and isn’t offered as an add-on purchase on Kistler’s product page.

What warranty covers the KISTLER Bakk Series Fly Rod?

KISTLER’s spec table for the Bakk Series lists a 30-year warranty specifically for this rod, separate from the “Bend-Strong” Limited Lifetime Warranty used on Kistler’s spinning and casting rods.

KISTLER’s product page does not publish the full written terms, coverage exclusions, or claims process for this warranty, so we can’t state those specifics here. Contact us and we’ll get you the exact terms before you buy if that’s a deciding factor.
