The AFTCO Ike Jime Kit is a set of tools for harvesting fish, a Japanese technique that improves fish quality by ensuring a quick, humane dispatch and proper blood drainage. Kits include a brain spike, the Circuit Breaker tool for destroying the spinal cord, and absorbent pads for freshness,Components and Process

• Brain Spike:The spike is inserted into the brain to immediately stop the fish from suffering and prevent the buildup of stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline
• Circuit Breaker:A flexible wire is run through the spinal canal to destroy the spinal cord (shinkei jime), completely paralyzing the fish and preserving meat quality.
• Bleeding:After spiking and wiring, the fish’s gills and artery are cut to allow for complete bleeding, which extends its shelf life.
• Absorbent Pads:Included to keep the fish’s fillets dry, reducing bacteria and preventing spoilage.
• Ice Slurry:Immediately submerging the fish in a 50/50 ice and saltwater slurry rapidly lowers its core temperature, slowing rigor mortis.

Benefits

• Improved Quality:Enhances flavor, texture, and smell, and results in firmer, longer-lasting fillets.
• Reduces Spoilage:Slows down the natural deterioration of the meat, allowing for a longer shelf life.
• Humane Euthanasia:The process quickly and humanely dispatches the fish, minimizing stress and suffering.
• Durable and Portable:The tools are crafted from high-grade, corrosion-resistant materials and are designed to be portable and durable for use in various fishing environments.

Kit Variations
AFTCO provides different kits tailored to the size of the fish you intend to catch, with variations in the length and gauge of the Circuit Breaker wire to match the fish’s size
