Description

The Speedmaster Deep Drop is the dedicated bottom-bouncing model in Shimano’s Speedmaster Game series, built for the kind of fishing where a heavy lead and a long drop put the outfit under constant load rather than short, violent bursts. Everything about it is chosen for that job.

The blank is Shimano’s TC4 construction, which keeps the rod light enough to handle comfortably while retaining the lifting power needed to work baits several hundred metres down. Fuji Silicon guides run the length of the blank and the rod finishes in an AFTCO swivel tip, which lets the tip top rotate with the line instead of forcing it to grind across a fixed ring on the way up and down. An aluminium Pac Bay reel seat with a channel lock butt clamps an electric reel solidly in place so nothing twists or creeps once you load up.

At 6’6″ in two pieces and rated PE 8-10, it is a natural fit for deep water species off the southern and eastern seaboard including but not limited to bar cod, blue-eye trevalla, hapuka, gemfish and ocean perch, and it pairs readily with the electric reels most deep drop anglers are running.
